When you think of organizing, there’s a pretty good chance blankets aren’t the first thing that comes to your mind.
Storing our blankets had become somewhat of a tedious chore. They were only down the hallway in the linen closet so it wasn’t like they were on the opposite end of the house. Now I’m going to sound super lazy here but getting up from the couch and going down the hallway to grab one became a chore. When you’re relaxing, you want something that’s easy. We had tried to figure out how to store them in the den but it wasn’t working out.
I came to realize some type of storage basket was needed in the den to make this work. I went to Home Goods to see what I could conjure. Before I left, I measured the space because our space is limited in the den so we couldn’t have anything that was too big. The choice was between a wire basket and a wicker basket. I went with the wire basket because the style and color fit our decor best.
When I got home and folded the baskets and put them in the basket, I stacked them but it wasn’t working out because the pile was overflowing the basket. Then I decided to store them vertically by rolling them up and they all fit! It’s made a big difference.
They are nicely stored in the bin and easier to get to, much easier than going down the hallway 😉
Here are the steps to organizing blankets:
- Find Your Space. Decide where you want to keep them. It’s best to store them close to where they will frequently be used. If they are frequently used in the den, store them there. If they are used more in the bedroom, store them there.
- Decide on Storage Space. If you are going to store them in the den, there are a few options to consider. There are ottomans that come with storage space where they can be hidden and easily accessed when needed. You can use baskets, wicker or wire. If you are going to store them in the bedroom, a drawer or closet could be an option. A bench with storage space or basket could work here too.
- Decide on Your Folding Method. In some scenarios folding and stacking the blankets will work best, for example a drawer. The height of most drawers are restricted to be able to store blankets vertically. If you are using a basket, the rolling method will likely work and look the best.
